Comedians in the Making
After mixing up some words and telling the kids to write their name on their pencils and pick up their paper and being corrected by a six year old (mind you the same smart mouth every time) our class has a discussion about how just like first graders sometimes mess up teachers do too. And teachers feel just as frustrated and sad when someone rudely points it out as a kid does. If you know what they meant to say, it doesn't need to be blurted about the room. This hard task was taken to heart by my class. Skip ahead several hours and we are walking out to load the busses: I say something silly again and a student points it out and I remind them how teachers make mistakes and they respond with, "well this is your first year after all". Who knew first graders could be comedians as well as students.
